Winter at Holkham

Brenda writes: “As I stood on the steps of Holkham Hall this morning before the ‘Canine Carols’ someone said, ‘You must feel like the Vicar of Dibley sometimes.’ Absolutely, but for me that’s the best part of rural ministry. This event, now in its third year, is such fun and we had lots of dogs (and their humans) singing along with the carols. It was very windy today but the skies cleared and the light was beautiful. The view across the park to the hall is always best in the winter once the trees have dropped their leaves.

After so much rain the reserve on the north edge of the estate is a patchwork of pools, doing what flood-meadows are meant to do and providing a safe haven for wildlife. “
