A colourful godwit

As I was going to be working or driving for most of the day – arriving eventually in Cardiff at about sunset, my only chance for a walk today was in the morning.

So I headed out for an hour or so at the pools east of Wells: This is an area of good wetland habitat just south of the coast which has really come into its own over the last few years. I didn’t expect to see anything new for the year – though with summer migrants arriving one can never tell! – but I did hear several chiffchaffs and Cetti’s warblers, and there were a good mix of ducks on the pools plus some black-tailed godwits, avocets and redshanks.

The most interesting bird was a beautifully coloured summer plumage black-tailed godwit, contrasting with several companions that weren’t showing any colours. Worthy of a photo.

I probably won’t get any birdwatching in tomorrow….but you never know!
